The turtle season is officially open.
Freshwater turtles are among the most endangered reptiles in Southeast Europe. Yesterday, we continued our research on these species in Buljarica.
In just one day, 320 turtles were caught – measured – and returned to their habitat.
By the end of the season, we will collect data on freshwater turtle species (the European pond turtle and the Balkan terrapin, as well as invasive species we frequently encounter), their habitats, the threats they face, and determine how important Buljarica is for their survival.
