Buljarica: One Bay, Many Values

2018 – 2020 European Comission, MANS

As part of the project “Active Citizens for a Better Montenegro – Towards Rule of Law and Sustainable Development in Montenegro”, MES organised a series of events during 2019 and 2020 under the common title: “Buljarica, One Bay – Many Values: Dialogue Towards a Sustainable Solution”.

The main goal of these events was to recognize and define the most important ideas and solutions that would contribute to the development of Buljarica based on the principles of sustainable development. The aim was to emphasise that a development approach founded on harmony between the local population and their natural environment is a more sustainable and profitable long-term solution than many other projects currently being implemented in Montenegro.

The key objective of the project was to collaborate with local residents to determine the best ways to preserve the natural values of Buljarica, while simultaneously addressing the needs of the citizens living in the area. This project initiated an intensive dialogue between citizens, experts, and decision-makers to identify and define the most important ideas and solutions for Buljarica’s development, so that nature and local residents can live in mutual harmony, ensuring that both the natural and human systems benefit from each other.

One of the project’s outcomes was an analysis of the current state and potential of Buljarica from economic, tourism, ecological, and legal perspectives.

The project was implemented in cooperation with the Network for the Affirmation of the Non-Governmental Sector (MANS), with financial support from the European Commission.
