2025 Ministry of ecology, sustainable development and development of the north
The project was conceived as a response to numerous challenges in waste management in the Municipality of Danilovgrad, with the aim of improving the waste separation system at the source, educating citizens, and connecting with the recycling system.
Through this project, we aim to improve the “door-to-door” model for the separate collection of three types of waste (biowaste, plastic, and batteries). We will also work on informing citizens through educational workshops, brochures, and a media campaign. Our goal is to strengthen cooperation between households, recycling companies, and municipal institutions for efficient waste treatment and, consequently, to reduce pressure on our natural environment.
As part of the project activities, 20 sets of equipment for plastic disposal and biowaste composting will be distributed. Battery disposal will be organized in cooperation with the two largest retail chains in Danilovgrad. The plastic collected during the project will be recycled and used to produce useful items such as bins, benches, or playground furniture, which will be installed in public areas within the Municipality of Danilovgrad.
To encourage greater involvement of the local population, focus groups will be organized with three local communities in the Municipality of Danilovgrad. Citizens’ attitudes, as well as the obstacles and challenges they face when disposing of waste, will be analysed. We want to understand how to best support citizens in proper waste disposal, to motivate them to take responsibility for protecting nature and improving the health of the entire community.
Through the project, citizens will have the opportunity to directly present their suggestions and provide input for improving the sustainable waste management system. The project team will compile these in a report to be submitted to the relevant Secretariat of the Municipality of Danilovgrad and the local utility company, so that the recommendations can contribute to the formation of future development plans for the municipality.
The project is funded by the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development, and will be implemented over the next 10 months in the territory of the Municipality of Danilovgrad, in cooperation with the NGO Democratic European Initiatives (DEI) from Danilovgrad. The project will include representatives from the local government, Danilovgrad Utility Company, Japanese EM Technology, and the 3D Room.
