This year, we are exploring the plant world of the Komarnica Canyon, with a special focus on habitats of European importance. Out of 88 such habitat types existing in Montenegro, as many as 21 can be found in Komarnica!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This type of research allows us to better understand Komarnica and also accelerates the process of establishing the Natura 2000 ecological network in Montenegro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While passing through the canyon, in a short time we encounter numerous springs, waterfalls, rapids, pools, tall vertical cliffs, cascades, natural wells, and many other features that we will share with you soon. Thanks to the specific terrain characteristics and microclimatic conditions, a large number of rare plants and animals inhabit this small area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of these data were presented at the roundtable \u201cBenefits and Harms of the Komarnica Hydropower Plant,\u201d held last week in \u0160avnik, organised by Organisation KOD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The research we conduct is supported by the Advisory Assistance Program (AAP) for Environmental Protection in Central and Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, and other neighbouring EU countries, funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. The project is supervised by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the German Environment Agency (UBA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
